Each week, we begin class by coming up with a theme for our character. Then, we brainstorm ideas for characters based on that theme. We do some quick sketches of these ideas. Finally, we choose our favorite one and draw it in more detail. Students are encouraged to work more on their character after class and to share it the following week. In this class, students will learn my method to generate ideas for interesting characters. Students of all skill level are welcome to join. This class is ongoing so students can enroll or unenroll at any time.
Other Details
Supply List
Students need paper, pencils and an eraser. Note: Computer paper can be used. More serious students may want to purchase sketch paper such as Strathmore Sketch because it allows students to erase more without scarring the paper. Graphite pencils of hardness 2b or softer are also recommended but not required.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from University of North Carolina at Wilmington
Hello! I'm Mr. Kyle and I am passionate about teaching (and learning!) digital and traditional art.
I graduated college with a B.A. in Psychology. After graduation, I moved to China to teach at a school in Shanghai. There, I taught English, art, science, and social studies for three years before moving back home at the end of 2016. Since then, I have been teaching online. Since 2016, I have spent most of my time outside of work seriously pursuing art. I began self-teaching from books, then I moved to online learning, and finally studied at the Academy of Classical Design.
I believe that artists need to learn the fundamentals of their craft to fully express themselves. I teach the fundamentals of visual art in all of my lessons (implicitly or explicitly). But, learning art should also be fun, so I dedicate the first half of each of my classes to learning, and the second half we have fun by creating art and applying what we learned.
Outside of work and creating art, I love traveling (I've been to over thirty countries!), learning other languages (I'm fluent in Spanish and speak Mandarin well), reading, and playing sports.
