People SAY that your heart pumps blood, but HOW does it pump the blood? Why doesn't the blood go backwards or just squirt everywhere? What is pee and why do we make it? How do the organs work together? 🎉These lessons will teach you what REALLY happens--not just what people say happens--because they are taught by a real doctor! 🎉You can also ask ALL YOUR QUESTIONS. In fact, answering questions is the best part of being a doctor because the training to be a doctor means knowing the real answers. 👉This is the first part of a three-part series designed to provide an age-appropriate overview of human anatomy. The next two parts are in production right now and will be available later in the fall of 2024. All three use the same coloring book and together will complete every topic in the book. While the coloring book stands alone as a valuable learning resource, your student has the unique opportunity to discover everything that Dr. Robin intended students AT THIS LEVEL to learn. Enroll now and embark on a fascinating journey into human biology as it's taught by a world expert in educating young people about the body. ✏️Get the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Robins-Anatomy-Coloring-Serious-Scientists/dp/B0DDVY1GPQ/ ❓ Why Learn from a Physician? ❓ As a physician, I find it frustrating that kids are often taught random factoids and that's considered science education. 👉After years focusing on educating kids about the human body, I've realized that this is because most people who teach science to kids either don't understand the science (because they trained in education) or don't understand the kids (because they trained in science). 👉My approach focuses on kids truly understanding how their body works so that they can think deeply about it rather than spew out unrelated facts that don't actually hold any meaning. ❓ Won't It Be Too Much for Kids This Age ❓ Interest is more important than age in this situation. If a child is fascinated with how the body works and wants to always know more, this class will give them the knowledge they crave. 👉My experience working with young families, especially those with neurodevelopmental conditions, has given me a knack for explaining complex topics in a way that makes sense to everyone. ❓ What Age Is Too Young❓ This class is not for everyone so please read through this information to make sure your child is ready! 👉If your child isn't able to wonder and ask questions about "how" and "why" and listen to the answers, they aren't ready for this class. 👉Each lesson is approximately 10 minutes long. 👉I will talk about details such as valves being like doors that only open in one direction, which is why the blood doesn't go backwards. If your child won't care about the blood needing to go forwards, there's no reason to sign them up for this class yet. There are plenty of wonderful teachers on Outschool who are teaching classes meant as a very first introduction to the body and I highly recommend any of them! ❓What to Expect from this course❓ For each lesson you will: ✅ Watch recorded lesson from me (approximately 10 minutes) ✅ Color a page from the anatomy book ✅ Watch a video to extend the topic into the real world (this is from YouTube and is not included in the total minutes of video time listed by Outschool... That total only includes my recorded lessons) ✅ Answer age-appropriate comprehension questions (but feel free to contact me for alternatives if needed!) ❓How to Choose the Correct Level ❓ This class is available at three different levels. 🎓Ages 6-11: 👉The lessons in this level are around 10 minutes long. 👉This is a good level for learners in this age range with no prior knowledge about the human body beyond general knowledge for this age. They might know that their heart pumps their blood or that their stomach digests their food. They might not know the path of food through their body, what the kidneys do, or the difference between arteries and nerves. 👉If your child is too young to care that the blood needs to go forward and not backward or that water needs to leave your body so that you don't become "a human water balloon" then you should check out some of the other amazing classes on Outschool that are meant as a first introduction. 👉Discussion questions in this level are appropriate for elementary aged students. 👉If they already have a good idea of what all their organs do and want to learn more in-depth information such as details about heart valves and the names of specific blood vessels, you should choose the next level regardless of your child's age. 🎓Ages 9-14: https://outschool.com/classes/anatomy-coloring-book-with-a-physician-learn-like-a-medical-student-part-1-KuuIC5Kg 👉The lessons in this level are around 20 minutes long. 👉This is a good level for learners in this age range who are ready to dig in to each topic in more detail. Younger learners in this age range should only choose this level if they are ready for lessons that are 20 minutes in length and include more details such as the specific names of blood vessels. 👉Each lesson includes a video from YouTube that extends the learning on the topic. The videos in this level are chosen to appeal to a middle school audience. If your learner takes themselves seriously, you should consider the next level up as the lessons are the same. 👉Discussion questions in this level require a student to be able to think more deeply about what they are learning and might involve comparing, contrasting, predicting, analyzing, or applying information. 🎓Ages 14-18: https://outschool.com/classes/pre-med-anatomy-learn-from-a-physician-part-1-heart-kidneys-more-FuCkUIe8 👉The lessons in this level are around 20 minutes long. 👉This is a good level for learners in this age range who have no prior knowledge about the human body beyond general knowledge for this age. 👉This is ALSO a good level for students who want a review or solid foundation during or before taking AP Anatomy and Physiology. I have taught these same lessons to my medical students to help them learn to THINK instead of MEMORIZE. It has often never occurred to them that the human body is logical and it can be a gamechanger when it's time to add more complex information. 👉Each lesson includes a video from YouTube that extends the learning on the topic. The videos in this level are chosen to appeal to a high school audience. 👉Discussion questions in this level require a student to be able to think more deeply about what they are learning and might involve comparing, contrasting, predicting, analyzing, or applying information. I will generally expect a longer answer and a more in-depth response than in the other levels but will happily adjust expectations if you let me know about any learning needs or differences. If you have more questions about levels, just message me!
Learning Goals
Explain the basic functions of major organs: Students will gain a foundational understanding of how key organs in the human body operate.
Describe the relationships between organs: Students will learn how different organs work together to maintain health and well-being.

over 8 WeeksLesson 1:
Welcome and Systems of the Human Body
Ever wondered how all the parts of your body work together? In this lesson, we'll explore the amazing systems that keep you alive and functioning. Discover how organs like your heart, lungs, and brain work together to perform vital tasks. We'll color the page in the coloring book. Then you'll watch a video of a doctor's appointment and answer questions about how the anatomy we just learned relates to the real life topics!
10 mins of video lessons
Lesson 2:
Human Cell
Ever wondered what the smallest parts of your body look like? In this lesson, we'll explore the amazing world of cells! Discover how these tiny building blocks come together to form everything from your skin to your bones. We'll color the page in the book. Then you'll watch a video showing an animation of the inside of a cell and answer questions about what we just learned!
19 mins of video lessons
Lesson 3:
Heart Exterior
Ever wondered how your heart pumps blood throughout your body? In this lesson, we'll take a closer look at the exterior of the heart. We'll also explore the different blood vessels that connect to the heart. We'll color the page in the coloring book. Then you'll watch a video and answer discussion questions about a boy who is getting heart surgery to a part of the heart we just learned about.

Lesson 4:
Cardiac Cycle
Ever wondered how your heart keeps the blood moving with just a little squeeze? In this lesson, we'll explore the fascinating process of the cardiac cycle when the heart's powerful muscles contract and relax to pump blood. We'll color the page in the coloring book. We'll also learn about the important role of valves in keeping blood flowing in the right direction. You'll watch a video showing a real (sheep's) heart and answer questions about how it works and how far it can pump!

Learning Needs
Please message me so I can support your learner's needs. As a physician and as a mom of kids with learning needs, I am able to suggest a number of adjustments to make sure your student has a great experience!
Parental Guidance
Nothing in this class will be or is intended to be medical advice. This is merely educational in nature and will be a surface-level overview. Your student will not be coming out of this class knowing anything about how to diagnose or treat these conditions and we will not be discussing any personal medical questions/needs. Students should come with general questions about the topic.
Pre-Requisites
This is the first course in a series of three that will cover the entire anatomy coloring book. Kids will enjoy this class if they are ready for a "real" anatomy class rather than games, songs, etc.
