45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class, students will be taught 1: To recognize the cues and signs of stress that their body/mind is sending them, and ways it can be both helpful and harmful 2. To identify personal triggers and causes of stress and angst, and ways to avoid those triggers 3. To practice and utilize coping strategies to counter negative feelings and beliefs, and replace them with positive thoughts and feelings 4. To create their own stress ball, that can be used as one coping strategy, and to help them be mindful about practicing muscle relaxation exercises throughout the day The class will be structured yet relaxed, with plenty of opportunities for students to share their own thoughts and ideas, if they choose to. The class will be interactive and engaging, and will focus on learning and practicing many of the coping strategies discussed (including positive self-talk and affirmations, deep breathing, muscle relaxation, and other useful skills). At the end of class, if time permits, students will be led through a demonstration of how to create their own stress ball, as one additional fun tool for coping with stress and worry. There will be plenty of opportunity for interaction between the students and the teacher, and the class will be fun, but productive! No prior experience or knowledge is required.
Learning Goals
Students will learn and practice coping strategies to help them manage feelings of stress, worry, and angst. They will be able to recognize signals of stress within themselves, and then identify and employ positive strategies and techniques to help them counter those negative feelings and replace them with positive alternatives.

Supply List
Students should have paper and something to write with. Also, if students would like to participate during class in creating their very own stress ball, they should have the following prepared for class: 2 Balloons (medium or large, not yet inflated) 1 sandwich bag (or a funnel, or top cut-off part of a water/soda bottle) Flour (or Rice) A spoon Scissors I'll demonstrate two different ways to make the stress ball - one with a sandwich bag, and one with a funnel.
