50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This exciting class combines your love for LEGO® bricks with literacy, specifically writing. Class will include: -A brick based ice-breaker -Introduction to the 7 Elements of Creative Writing (Character, Plot, Setting, Point of View, Style, Theme, Literary Devices) -A mini-lesson and focus on the element of character -Quick review on how to craft a well-written paragraph -Writing time for the learner to write a short story, using a writing prompt given to the class - Time to build a LEGO® brick creation based upon the learner's story that was written -Sharing either the story or the build with the class, if the student is comfortable sharing. Not sharing is fine too. -If time permits, class will conclude with an enrichment challenge meant to support creativity development and gifted thinking. My teaching style is creative but structured and I encourage all learners to try a class, even if you are a beginner at building. Come and meet some new friends and let's have a blast building, writing and getting our creativity going! All students are encouraged to post a picture of either their story or their completed build in our classroom space. *LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO® Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorize, or endorse this lesson.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello,
I'm Dr. Sarah Evans and I'm excited to teach some engaging and creative classes on Outschool! Topics may vary from reading tutoring, writing, poetry, helping your child love reading, to creative thinking, leadership, and LEGO challenges. I have over 15 years of experience in teaching as a classroom teacher and private reading tutor, and I hold both a Master's and a Ph.D. in education. I also hold a current license to teach PreK through sixth grade.
My teaching philosophy can be summarized- As a teacher I support in developing learners' potentials using positivity, creativity, imagination, and motivation within a structured but engaging learning environment. All students are welcome and I look forward to helping your learner find educational success and enjoy learning.
My two favorite hobbies are reading and traveling. When I'm unable to go and travel, a book is the second best option because stories can take you far away and on many different journeys. My whole house loves to read and some of our favorite characters are: Harry Potter and his friends, Charlie Bucket, the BFG, The Lorax, The Boxcar Children, and many others. Most every day you can find us curled up somewhere reading and you would definitely find books laying around on all the surfaces of our home. I look forward to meeting you!
