Class Experience

In this class we will be focusing on simple shapes and how they can be used to make more complex characters such as the Mandalorian. We will be analyzing the form of the Mandalorian’s helmet and discovering the simple shapes that are within that object.

I am a big believer in taking kids where they are talent wise and making sure everyone has a fun learning experience. I also believe we learn the most when we push our abilities and are okay with making a few mistakes along the way as that is all part of the learning process. I will teach by doing and have the class follow along making sure that everyone is progressing at their own level and their own pace.

Lastly, I expect a well behaved class full of positive comments and a willingness to try your best.

Learning Goals

The goal of the class is to get a basic understanding of how simple shapes can be put together to make up a more complex drawing and have fun doing it. The bonus is we will also learn about watercolors and the use of warm and cool colors to describe form and help your drawing take shape.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I would love to teach everything art! From perspective to character/creature/props and environment designs for games. classes on creating Disney style parade floats based on their favorite movie or character. Also, Plein Air style painting from imagination and photos. Always open to new classes and would love to do this in both traditional and digital mediums.

To tell you a little about myself, I have been working as a concept artist for 25 years. I have taught kids and adult art and design classes along the way. I have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to art and design and truly love when I get the opportunity to teach and pass along some of that knowledge. I have been blessed to have worked as a concept artist for Disney, Universal Creative, Warner Bros, and Cedar Fair Parks. I have worked on brand experiences for Harry Potter, Avatar, Game of Thrones, Marvel, and many others.

My philosophy is that I believe art and design are a form of communication that when done properly can be understood by almost everyone. I also believe that everyone that can write words or draw stick figures can be taught to draw. I love to take complex subjects and break them down into bite-size pieces when I teach. I feel it is my responsibility to find out where each student is in the process and help them to learn at a pace and comfort level that inspires them to love art.

I am a father of seven wonderful kids and grew up surfing and playing sports. My favorite movie is Star Wars which also the one that heavily influenced my career choice.
