New to Outschool? Enjoy $20 off this class with promocode: CHRISCH20 (New users only) Welcome to my Portrait Drawing class, where we will explore the art of drawing portraits in a fun and supportive environment. In this class, we will be drawing different celebrities every week, including actors, musicians, singers, and even popular YouTubers! Our schedule is based on your requests, so you can learn to draw your favorite stars. During our classes, I will offer a range of techniques and tips to improve your portrait drawing skills: β Learn to consistently draw correct proportions by following along with me as I demonstrate drawing the eyes, nose, and mouth. Each week, I will provide specific tips tailored to the celebrity we are drawing. β Learn to draw difficult angles such as a three-quarter view, and I will show you how to use artistic techniques and tools such as Plumblines, Angle lines, and Negative shapes to double-check your work. β Additionally, I will teach you the βFive-Point Techniqueβ, a method I learned while working at Disney, which will help you create unique and accurate face shapes quickly. β To enhance the quality of your portraits, I'll be demonstrating the "Shadow Mapping" technique that will help you draw precise shadows and avoid smudges, resulting in a polished final product. β Furthermore, you will learn the three-toned system - "Chocolate Theory" - where you will learn to control your shading into midtones, shadows, and highlights. This will enable you to implement a wide and dynamic range of values, making your drawing look impactful from across the room. β As a student in my class, you will receive live in-class feedback with βScreenshare Technology.β I will help you pinpoint and correct mistakes and provide actionable steps to make your drawings better. Students are welcome to use traditional mediums such as pencil, paper, eraser, or digital mediums such as an iPad - both are fine. This class is suitable for mature students who want to learn in a supportive environment. It is ideal for ambitious students who are eager to learn new techniques and grow as artists. As this is a fairly advanced class, the suggested age range is 11 years and above. However, I understand that artistic skills transcend age. If your child is below 11 years old, please submit photos of their artwork for approval before enrolling in the class. Thank you for your interest, and I look forward to helping you improve your portrait drawing skills!
Learning Goals
The learning goal will be for the student to see a photo and accurately sketch it out. The advanced learning goal is for the student to combine multiple reference photos together, and draw their own unique creations with their own artistic expression.
