US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Learning to read requires explicit, systematic instruction. This course follows the evidence-based approach to teaching a child to read. Completing the entire series of Units 1-6 will give your child a solid foundation in phonemic awareness, letter sounds, word building and decodable reading in order to confidently and fluently read consonant-vowel-consonant words and sight words. My teaching approach is to engage students with hands-on activities. I will also use a white board, screen sharing and worksheets. **A printer is necessary to print in-class handouts, as well as skills reinforcement activities for outside of class. **A page protector and dry erase marker is not required, but would be helpful for handouts that can be re-used in each class. **To be successful in the class, students must know all letters and sounds. 4-Week Schedule Week 1 - /c/ and short a,i,o words Week 2 - /k/ and short a,i,o words Week 3 - /u/ and short a,i,o,u words Week 4 - /ck/ and short a,i,o,u words
