In this 3 session- high energy club, students will explore their creativity within English Language Arts through Hip Hop. Each week, learners explore a new theme, while learning the principles of impromptu rhyming known as freestyling.

Projects
1 hour per week. The performances themselves will serve as the "assessments", but there will be no traditional grading just fun and support!

Beginner - Advanced Level
Does your learner love rhyming, making beats, or spitting bars? Is your learner feeling stuck in traditional reading and writing classes, struggling to find motivation and enthusiasm in English Language Arts? Welcome to a very unique club. In this high energy three session journey, students come to together to create, share, and perform their own hip hop in a supportive and collaborative space.  It's a freestyle rap lab! No experience needed- learners should bring their voice, their ideas, and their energy! Each week club members will be provided a writing prompt or theme such as 'dreams', 'confidence', or 'overcoming obstacles'. They'll learn the art of freestyling and also have opportunities to write bars during class or share prewritten verses and take turns performing in a live supportive Zoom cypher. They will sharpen their poetic skills and gain a deeper appreciation for more of communication and storytelling.

Parental Guidance
In this class, language will be kept appropriate. There will be no explicit content allowed, no cursing, just uplifting lyrics and topics aimed at increasing self-esteem, personal pride, and the togetherness that comes from working hard at an enjoyable fun task!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I myself am a hip-hop artist whose performed in multiple cities in China. I've recorded albums and even freestyled for audiences in both America and China. The genesis of my foray into musical storytelling was my passion for English Language Arts one which has taken me into classrooms around the world, authorship, and yes hip hop. There are so many forms of communication and modern ways to engaging young learners. Here's a non traditional method for inspiring them to value communication and storytelling. With 15 years of traditional and non-traditional teaching experience: I'm excited to offer this club here on Outschool. Let's broaden the horizons of our learners, see you soon!
