Class Experience

Embark on a personalized musical journey with our One-on-One Songwriting and Music Theory Class. This exclusive course is tailored to learners' unique interests, goals, and skill level, offering a comprehensive exploration of songwriting techniques and music theory concepts.

Each class will be personalized to align with the learner's goals. Here are some example topics that the learners may explore, which will be adjusted according to the learner's levels and needs:

- Getting to Know the Staff
Introduce the treble and bass clefs.
Learn the basic structure of the musical staff.
Practice identifying lines and spaces in both clefs.
Engage in simple exercises to identify common notes.

- Rhythmic Foundations
Explore basic rhythmic notation (whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes).
Understand time signatures, focusing on 4/4 and 3/4.
Practice clapping and playing simple rhythmic patterns.
Introduce basic rhythmic exercises and games for reinforcement.

- Creating Simple Melodies
Learn the C major scale and simple melodies based on it.
Practice transcribing short melodies using musical notation.
Encourage students to create their own simple melodies using the notes learned.

- Chords and Basic Harmony
Introduce the concept of chords.
Learn to play the C, G, F, Am, Dm and E major chords on a keyboard or guitar.
Explore simple chord progressions and how they form the backbone of many songs.

- Creating a “mind map” of the piece
Looking at simple forms (verse/chorus or strophic).
Review notes on the treble staff.

- The lyrics
Look at how rhythm and words are connected in music..

- Rhythm
Take your finished lyrics and create a time signature and notated rhythm for them.

- Pitch
Learn to use a virtual keyboard (Chordia or Chordio are examples) to match pitch and write down the notes for your piece. 
Review C major scale.

- Chords
Sing your piece and notation. 
Discuss chords (I, IV, V and vi) in C major and A minor.

- Lead sheets
Look at lead sheets for common popular songs and get used to the format.

- Vocal Technique
Give tips on breathing, diction, and intonation. 
Introduce GarageBand and Voice memos.

- Performance
