⭐New to Outschool? Message me before you enroll!!!⭐

My goal is to create a meaningful, creative learning environment where students can comfortably invent and share their songs with one another.

We will begin with introductions and an explanation of the course. We will talk about easy ways to read and write music using alpha notation. We will analyze an 8-measure song and then discuss how to use it as a template to create a new song.

Students will invent their own unique 8-measure song and have the opportunity to share it by the end of the class.

To get the most out of this class, students must be able to name and play the notes of a five-note scale on their own instrument. Young musicians studying piano, guitar, ukulele, banjo, violin, cello, bass--- all are welcome!

SET UP

** Please print the worksheet enclosed or copy by hand before class! **

Students must be seated at a piano or keyboard or other instrument to be ready for this class. For best results, place your ipad or laptop at or near the sheet music stand.

Please enable Original Sound setting (or Original Sound for Musicians) in your Zoom settings for all music classes!

For piano lessons, the video camera should be positioned to face the keyboard/piano keys to show the student's hands *and* face. The side view of the keyboard is best. Though not required, having a second device to place on the sheet music stand in front of the learner is also helpful if I need to screen-share music for new beginners.

At the first lesson, I may ask to see your seating arrangement. Often, young children need a booster seat and a footstool in order to play comfortably at an adult-sized instrument.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to build an 8-measure song based on motives. We will analyze a song, identifying basic patterns: motive, retrograde, and repetition.
