Description
Class Experience
Students will learn: - To correctly hold the recorder - Read music - The correct way to blow into the recorder - Count Value of notes - Music Theory - Play Recorders in time with other classmates - Play a simple harmony piece No prior experience is required for this class. I like to have fun and teach by example. Students can feel free to ask questions throughout the class. I have taught Recorder and Flutophone classes for over 15+ years. Karate Recorders was by far, the students favorite...
Students will learn to play the recorder by reading music. Students will specifically learn: accents marks, crescendo, decrescendo, value of notes, intervals, measures, bar line, double bar line, time signatures, common time, quarter notes and rest, half notes and half rest. . No politics or religion will be taught in this class. This class is solely for learning to read music and play the recorder. Recorders are one of the least expensive ways to learn to read music.
There are different styles of music incorporated throughout this Music Theory book. I will be substituting 3 songs in place of the religious songs, to stick with Outschool's policy. (Those will be in PART 2 section to these classes)
Students will be expected to practice between classes. Students will have homework stated at the end of each class. Practice really well for each belt they are trying out for each time.

There are some pencil work throughout the book.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I assess as we go along. The book also has little assessment throughout. In the Part 2 Karate Recorder class (an extension of this class,) their is a musical check up that will assess what they have learned throughout the book as well.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
There are 3 religious songs in the book. They are in PART 2 ( The extension to this class) Due to Outschool's policy we will not be playing those songs. I will be substituting those songs for "Jingle Bells", "Tune of Harmony", and "On Top of Old Smokey."
