US Grade 8 - 11
This class will focus on the very basics of psychology. It is an introduction to a whole world of surprises you probably didn't know about yourself. Day #1- What is psychology? This day will be all about the history of psychology. We will also talk about what psychology is, the different perspectives and subfields. Day #2- Psychology theories, important theories we still go by to this day. These theories are: Jean Piaget's Theory and Stages of Cognitive Development, Lev Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory, Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, Sigmund Freud- Dream Analysis and Nature vs Nurture debate. Day #3- Learning and Memory- Three main ways of learning; classical conditioning, operant conditioning and observation. We will also talk about information processing that leads to short and long term memory. Day #4- Sensation and Perception. Different ways in which we perceive information we receive from our senses. Day #5- Thinking and Language. We will talk about the process behind thinking and developing language. How these two are connected. Day #6 - Emotional Health and Stress. Emotions vs Feelings. We will discuss how the brain functions when it comes to emotions. We will also discuss stress and will have time to go over our guide and any questions. Participation is encouraged, best way to learn about psychology is to listen to how people think and see things differently opening our mind to new and different perspectives. Students will have a guide they can fill out during class or as homework. We will review it at the beginning of each class. This course runs better with at least 3 students. I might make an exception if there is only 2 but will not run it if there is one student as discussion is important for this course. I will communicate with that one student what the options are prior to the class.

Psychology has always been a passion of mine. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology in Michigan. My first degree is in education and have worked with kids ever since graduating college. My masters is in educational technology but my research was on autism and how their mind works. The mind is amazing and would love to share my knowledge!
