50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class, we will begin by reviewing how to use a scientific calculator, some vocabulary frequently used, and begin working on pre-algebra skills that will be most commonly needed. I look forward to working with you on calculator operations, expressions with variables on one side, expressions with variables on both sides, and some basic graphing skills. I like to teach in the "I do, we do, you do" style. I will do an example, we will then do one together, and then I will ask you to complete one on your own. I rely on the use of slides and discussion in my classes. Please be prepared to discuss your work and share out in class. To be the most successful the student should have basic math knowledge, and preferably have completed a 6th and 7th grade math course.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to perform basic operations with both positive and negative integers on a calculator.
Students will solve expressions with variables on one and both sides of the equal sign.
Students will graph coordinate pairs to form lines.
