Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 10
Listed below are the common standards taught in Algebra 1. I am happy to help the student master these concepts. 1. Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities Simplifying algebraic expressions Solving linear equations Solving and graphing inequalities Applications of equations and inequalities (word problems) Absolute value equations and inequalities 2. Functions Introduction to functions (definition, notation) Domain and range Evaluating functions Graphing linear functions Identifying linear, quadratic, and other types of functions 3. Linear Equations and Graphs Slope of a line Slope-intercept form: y=mx+b Point-slope form and standard form Graphing lines and interpreting the meaning of slope and intercept Parallel and perpendicular lines 4. Systems of Equations and Inequalities Solving systems of linear equations (graphing, substitution, elimination) Applications of systems of equations Solving systems of inequalities 5. Exponents and Exponential Functions Properties of exponents (product, quotient, power rules) Simplifying expressions with exponents Exponential growth and decay Graphing exponential functions Scientific notation 6. Polynomials Adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials Special products of polynomials (difference of squares, perfect square trinomials) Factoring polynomials (factoring out the greatest common factor, trinomials, difference of squares) Solving quadratic equations by factoring 7. Quadratic Functions and Equations Introduction to quadratic functions Graphing quadratic functions (finding the vertex and axis of symmetry) Solving quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula Applications of quadratic functions 8. Radical Expressions and Equations Simplifying radical expressions Operations with radicals (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) Solving radical equations Introduction to the Pythagorean theorem and its applications 9. Rational Expressions and Equations (introductory) Simplifying rational expressions Solving rational equations (sometimes covered) Operations with rational expressions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) 10. Data Analysis and Probability Interpreting and analyzing data (mean, median, mode, range) Scatter plots and lines of best fit Introduction to basic probability (simple events, compound events) Measures of central tendency and spread (variability)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am so excited to meet you! I currently tutor Chemistry, Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus. I have been teaching and tutoring these classes for the last 10 years. I graduated from Indiana University with my BS in Biochemistry and Minor in Mathematics. I also went to Purdue University for my MS in Biochemsitry. I love math and science! I enjoy helping students with these challenging classes to do their very best! I homeschool my own five children. I love to camp and hike with my family and play with my sweet bernedoodle, Daisy!
