Immersion in a Spanish-speaking environment is a good way for students to develop their conversation skills in Spanish while also making them feel more confident while using the language. In this ongoing intermediate to advanced class, students will be immersed in a Spanish-only virtual environment in Minecraft. Each week we will play Minecraft: Java Edition in survival mode on my private white-listed server. Students will receive the server IP address upon enrolling in the class. Students should private message me their gamertag prior to class so I can whitelist them. I will ask students questions about what they are doing as they play, to get them speaking more in Spanish. Learners will be encouraged to use Spanish as much as possible, although sometimes learners may use English to refer to a block in Minecraft. I will also assist learners with phrasing and words in Spanish when needed. My teaching philosophy with language learning is that learners should communicate with the Spanish they already know and mistakes are perfectly okay and needed for developing Spanish skills! Parents please see the parental guidance section for more information. Technical Requirement -Latest version of Minecraft: Java Edition (Only on PC/Macbooks) -Able to be connected to Zoom and the Minecraft: Java Edition server at the same time (some learners may require two devices to do this) -Students must set their game to one of the Spanish language varieties (this is available inside the game in the "options" menu) Language Prerequisite- your learner should be able to do some or most of the following in Spanish describe objects in the present (eg: La manzana es roja.= The apple is red.) able to use a few present tenses to describe what they are doing (eg: Estoy comiendo una manzana.= I'm eating an apple.) some familiarity with at least one past tense (eg: Comí una manzana.= I ate an apple.) some familiarity with at least one way to speak in the future tense (eg: Voy a comer una manzana.= I'm going to eat an apple.)
