Magic Spanish Minecraft:¡Cuidado con los hechizos! Careful with the Spells!

Practice intermediate to advanced Spanish  in this ongoing Spanish-speaking modded Minecraft: Java Edition class! Learners will play a modded version of the game that adds different types of magic in survival mode. Each week learners will have a task to complete in the game such as: build a base, construct a magic battle arena, design your own personal magic library, etc. Parents please know that as we play in survival mode, your learner's in-game character might die. Students will play on my own private server that I open a few minutes before class and I close at the end of class. 

This class is for students who have an intermediate to advanced level of Spanish (about 2 or more years of Spanish) and for students who are native Spanish speakers.  We will speak in Spanish during most of the class and will use English sometimes to refer to some spells and some blocks in the game. Most of the time we talk about things that are happening in the game as they happen. I also ask that learners set their Minecraft game to Spanish as a way to create a more immersive environment. 

Parents, please see the welcome email and it will include an installation guide and the modpack file. The  guide will also include links to the different mods used in case you would like to check them out or if your learner is interested in playing around with some of them after class in their own single-player world. Please make sure your learner has the mods installed and is able to run the game prior to class. If you run into technical issues, please message me hours in advance so that I can have time to assist you before class time. I will not be able to assist with installation-related problems during class, because it takes away valuable speaking time from other learners.  

Technical Requirements
-a purchased version of Minecraft: Java Edition
-the program CurseForge (Please see supply section for more information about this application)

The theme of each class is determined by in-game events so at most, I can say the game mode that we will use for the following weeks. 

Week of Sept 2nd- Jugar de modo supervivencia/ Play Survival Mode
Week of Sept 9th- Jugar de modo supervivencia/ Play Survival Mode
Week of Sept 16th- Jugar de modo supervivencia/ Play Survival Mode 
Week of Sept 23rd- Construir una biblioteca en modo supervivencia/Build a library in survival mode


My teaching style is conversational and I like to give learners time to come up with solutions on their own. I try to keep my classes as gender-inclusive as possible, as such, I include the "elle" pronoun  in my classes for my learners who are gender non-binary. I try to use gender neutral language during classes when possible to help keep the learning environment as inclusive as can be.
