The ability to make inferences can help student in all areas and subjects, not just in Reading! This skill crosses over to Science, Social Studies, and so many other areas! Inferences are an important foundational reading strategy for comprehension. In this one time class, first students will discuss what an inference is, and what criteria should be used in order to make sound inferences. Then we will practice making inferences about engaging pictures, using our schema (background knowledge) and the picture clues. We will then take the skill to the next level by watching a Pixar short and make inferences with comprehension questions. We will end the session by playing a fun game Blooket to practice what we learned! My goal as a teacher is to make learning fun, relevant, and engaging for students! It is important for students to make personal connections to content, so they can take ownership in their learning. Knowing that children learn in many different ways, I incorporate a variety of learning strategies and activities to reach all learners. I love using a variety of media, as I feel it helps students strengthen their skills in a fun way! This class is designed for students ages 9-11, who have little or some knowledge of inferences.
Learning Goals
