US Grade 9 - 12
This class will cover three steps to writing a thesis for an essay. We will begin with a discussion about what a thesis is. Next, learners will be taught the three-step process to write a solid thesis. It will be presented, then followed up with discussion and questions. We will practice writing a thesis in a gradual release style: I do (teacher), We do (group), and You do (individual) using assorted essay prompts. By the end of class, learners should have a good understanding of a thesis, how to use the step-by-step process to write a strong thesis, and have practiced writing their own thesis sentences. Google slides may be used during the class, but learners will not need to access anything outside of Google Slides, Google Docs, or the Outschool Classroom and Zoom. We will not discuss the parts of an essay, the process of writing an essay, or actually write an essay. We will focus on writing a thesis only in this class.
Learning Goals
1. Learners will understand a thesis sentence and its purpose in the essay.
2. Learners will learn and be able to apply a 3 step process to write a strong thesis.
3. Learners will write their own thesis statements.
