How to Use Scissors & Glue Sticks for Preschool/Kindergarten Prep

Through rhymes, songs, and fingerplays we will strengthen our fine motor skills. We will learn the correct scissor grasp and learn how to use glue sticks. We will learn important safety tips and get our hands ready for preschool and kindergarten.

Class Experience

Building strong fine motor skills is critical for new preschool and kindergarten students as they participate in learning activities using scissors and glue sticks. In this class we will learn finger-plays to strengthen hand muscles and build coordination, we will sing songs that teach the proper grasp of scissors, and we will practice cutting along straight, curvy, and zigzag lines as well as shapes. We will learn how to open, close, and twist glue sticks as we create unique paper art. At the end of class students will have the opportunity to share their creations with the class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about how to safely hold and use scissors. They will learn the proper grasp for holding scissors. Students will also learn how to use glue sticks. Students will engage in fine motor skills activities to strengthen hand muscles.

Scissors are sharp, so adult supervision is recommended.
