Class Experience

This class requires that the student have previous basic experience with a sewing machine or has taken the pre-requisite Intro to the Sewing Machine class. The students must be able to sew straight lines and corners, do a backstitch, and use the correct measurement lines on the stitch plate.

(Please note my video says ages 7-12 but this specific class is for ages 12-17, same project though)

This class requires materials so you will want to plan ahead to have them ready to go before class starts to ensure the student can participate.

**Refund Policy
All One-Time classes have a standard refund policy: "Full refund until a week in advance, or within 24 hours of purchase (until class starts)."

CLASS OBJECTIVES

Objective 1 - The student will be able to cut out fabric using the pattern pieces correctly by understanding pattern information.
Objective 2 - The student will be able to put layers of fabric together accurately and quilt them by the end of class.
Objective 3 - The student will be able to trim corners, turn a project right side out, and manipulate the fabric to create straight edges and clean corners by the end of class.
Objective 4 - The student will be able to edge stitch accurately by the end of class.

CLASS OUTLINE

Objective 1 - I will demonstrate how to put the pattern together and cut it. I will explain the pattern markings and how they relate to making the project. I will demonstrate how to cut the fabric by pinning correctly and cutting it accurately. Students will then perform the task.

Objective 2 - I'll demonstrate how to prepare the pocket piece and layer the fabric. Students will complete the tasks. They will then learn how to quilt the pocket piece into sections.

Objective 3 - I will explain the purpose of trimming corners and show the students how to do it. Students will then do this on their own. I will teach the students how to turn and push our corners and carefully press their project using the iron and pin it.

Objective 4 - Students will learn how to close the opening and edge stitch the project. Students will then be shown how to add their ribbon and they will complete their project.

Please contact me anytime with questions or concerns before you enroll, before students start on the project or anytime during the process of making this project. We will trouble shoot together any problems that may arise so your student can be successful!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parents, please ensure your student is placed in front of a table or desk where the sewing machine can be comfortably reached to ensure safety. Your student will need to be in an appropriate seat to be able to reach his or her foot pedal as well so they can safely start and stop the machine as needed. I will be reminding them of all safety issues with tools and equipment, please ensure they are capable of understanding it, specifically for sharp objects (scissors, pins, needles, seam ripper) and use of the iron.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
My passion for sewing goes hand in hand with teaching. Helping others learn the art of sewing either as a hobby or future career is my goal. I teach ages 7+ beginner classes, starting with threading a machine and building techniques to work toward sewing Independence through projects and samples. I have several private students who work on intermediate and advanced protects.

I previously taught high school sewing and fashion design for 7 years before stepping away to be a stay at home mom. I still love to share knowledge with others so teaching on Outschool has been a perfect fit

I believe people learn best through experience so my classes are project based. Each project has specific techniques that we will focus on mastering that can applied to future projects. Some projects require a prerequisite course to ensure specific knowledge is acquired for success.

A fun side note- Although I continue to teach, I also do custom clothing and alterations on the side. I've created fun costumes like Princess Peach and Princess Jasmine dresses and even a Zelda recreation!
