Class Experience

Sewing is an art that serves as an essential tool and creative outlet for everyone who learns it.

Learn The Art of Sewing: Beginners Basics is a 4-day course designed to teach individuals that are interested in learning the art of sewing everything they need to know to successfully start their sewing journey. This class is perfect for students who have never touched a sewing machine before, and it is also the pre-requisite class for those that are interested in eventually learning to sew either stuffed animals, doll clothes, quilts, bags, or even clothing for themselves via my Garment Construction Class Series.

Below is a rough breakdown of what we will cover over the course of the class.

Day 1
We will focus on the various types of sewing machines, their anatomy, and what each part of the machine will do. We will discuss the tools needed to sew as well as what is needed to create the basic starter kit.

Day 2
We learn how to read the fabric bolt and we will look at the various types of fabric used for sewing. We'll learn how to handle them, cut them, and how to create a fabric swatch book that will allow the students to continue to learn the various types of fabric by their feel.

Day 3
We will actually get on the sewing machine. We'll learn about the basic stitches, and when to use them as well as learning how to sew in a straight line.

Day 4
We will work on a simple project which is corner bookmark holders.
Learning Goals
Students will be comfortable with and have a basic understanding of how to operate a sewing machine by the time they finish this course.
