Class Experience

Using a mix of classroom activities, presentations, games, and partner/class discussion students will develop a ready-to-implement, capstone project to make a change in a cause they care about. The class will dive into topics of the importance of social entrepreneurship and the power of ordinary people to make a difference in their communities. With an emphasis on the communicative and leadership aspects of becoming a change maker, the lessons and skill work will equip students with the confidence and competence to see a project through to completion.
As a high-energy teacher, I emphasize classroom engagement and an activity-oriented environment. Over the course of 10 weeks, students will become familiar with the concepts and mechanisms of effective planning and execution of change-making.

My experience in debate encouraged me to get involved in politics at a very young age and equipped me with the skills necessary to be successful at it. By the time I was 16, I lead an initiative with the Mayors Youth Advisory Council to write and pass a law in the Idaho state legislature that would lower the organ donation age to 15 years old. It passed unanimously. This also got me an internship on a political campaign for a candidate running for a United States House of Representatives position, as one of the youngest interns in the field. At 17, I organized the Boise Believes Survivors demonstration and assisted in organizing school-level demonstrations as part of the March For Our Lives movement. At 18, I was published in a textbook called "Why People Hate" for research I did on how white supremacy spreads and how to combat it, which is being used as part of the curriculum in a university-level class.
