Embracing diversity and inclusion empowers kids to engage their world with curiosity, confidence and kindness. Diversity and inclusion helps children learn to empathize with people who are different from them. Diversity and inclusion make all kids better learners, allowing them to understand various subjects from multiple points of view. In this semester long course learners will explore a variety of diversity an inclusion topics while participating in creative projects. As your learner complete daily activities, they will discover positive actions that they can take to make a difference in their community. Class will vary week by week. Learners will include various activities including: reading passages and comprehension, supplemental videos, vocabulary games, short writing prompts, books , and diversity inspired art projects. Week 1- Identity and Skills, Talents, and Abilities Project: About Me Map Week 2- Family Diversity Project: Family Portrait Week 3- Our Community and Different Communities Project: Game Review Week Week 4-Race, Prejudice, and Racism Project: Peace Flowers Picture Week 5- What is Diversity? Celebrating Differences. Special Lesson: Let's celebrate the diversity in a common action across the world, picnics! Week 6- Culture and Appreciating Others/Common Good Project: Watch Virtual Show and Tell, Class Show and Tell, Thank You cards to those we appreciate in our lives Week 7- Stereotypes, Discrimination and Bullying Project: Bullying Activity Week 8- Building Empathy and Understanding Disabilities Project: What does Empathy mean to you?

Parental Guidance
Multiple third part resources are used in this class as supplemental material and comprehension checks. Students will only access these during class and no account creations will be required. Direct links will be given to learners during class.
Race, discrimination , and cultural differences will be discussed in this class. I have many years of experience facilitating difficult conversations regarding diversity and inclusion. I am committed to creating a safe non bias space for children to express their thoughts and ideas.
Supply List
Students will need notebook to keep their work in. This can also be a folder. I will post worksheets monthly and they can be stored in a folder or pasted in a notebook. They will also need basic art materials for small projects: -Sketch or computer paper -Coloring materials -Glue Sticks -Scissors

I have mentored over 200 teens over the past 6 years through my nonprofit on diversity and current events and continue to lead open group discussions regarding diversity and inclusion for individuals ages 5-18 as well as adults in a corporate setting. I have many years of experience facilitating difficult conversations regarding civil rights and African American History. I have been serving on the Women of Color Community Leadership Board for a Fortune 500 company in Diversified Outsourcing Services industry. This unique is group is a branch of their Diversity and Inclusion department. Through this position I have facilitated, created, and organized trainings on diversity and inclusion, anti racism, and holiday specific courses (history of MLK Day, Kwanzaa, Juneteenth, Indigenous Peoples' Day, and Black History Month) for the work place. In edition utilizing elective courses I have taken though my undergraduate and graduate degrees (World history, American history, North American Slavery) I also have extensively studied the books/textbooks for the purpose of teaching classes for school aged children for various non profit programs and after school organizations, and children on parents who are employed with above listed company as a company benefit on various African American heroes and events both virtually and in person.
