Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will be asked to complete a short "research project" each week. The purpose of this project is to encourage curiosity and asking questions in the study of science and learn how to research specific topics in anatomy. Students will be asked to present their research to the class or share what they learned for 1-2 minutes.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
In this 12-week online course, students will study anatomy by learning about the 12 major body systems. Each week, we will learn about each system's parts, purpose, and how it works. We will also learn about common diseases that affect each system and medical professionals who help correct these diseases.

Class members will meet two times per week. The first meeting of each week will be lecture-style (with plentiful interaction) and will focus on learning about that week's body system. A handout will be provided after every lecture day summarizing important points. Between meetings, students will complete an assigned research project and come ready to share what they learned on the second meeting. Generally, for their research projects I will ask students to choose one of the diseases mentioned in class to learn about how it works and how it affects that week's body system. The second meeting of each week will be for research presentations (1-2 minutes each) and student-led Q&A discussion. The purpose of this meeting is to share with each other what we found in our research and to discuss the concepts from lecture that students found most difficult or interesting. I will prepare practice examples to work on if students do not have many questions; otherwise, this second meeting provides a great opportunity for students to focus on learning about the aspects of the lesson they are most interested in.

Please reference the class syllabus for information about the course curriculum.

This class is designed for the beginner to intermediate level, which includes students with some or no prior experience in anatomy. I adjust my class instruction to the students' level of understanding. However, 12 weeks is a long commitment. I would encourage students who would like to sample anatomy before committing to the semester class to try my one-time course titled "Let's Learn About You: Introduction to Anatomy".

I am happy to answer any specific questions regarding class structure, teaching style, or curriculum coverage.

This class also runs as a summer camp (May/June-August). Please reach out to me with questions about the summer format.

Parental Guidance
Please note that the Reproductive System will be studied in Week 10. This essential part of human anatomy is vital for the survival of all living things. We will cover both the male and female reproductive systems with maturity and an academic focus. Jokes or inappropriate comments will not be tolerated. If you have specific questions or need accommodations for your student during this week, please contact me. An alternate assignment will be available for students exempted from class that week.
Supply List
Please assist learners (as needed) in printing or downloading each week's review handout.

Students will need access to an internet search engine (such as Google) or books on anatomy to complete their research projects.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am a recent graduate in Biomedical Science. While I have recently completed 4 college-level anatomy classes and labs, I restrict my content to basic anatomy only. However, my background allows me to answer the difficult or complex questions that may arise.
