In this one-time fun and interactive class, students will learn all about The Titanic. Students do not need to have any prior knowledge of the event. The class will run as follows: 5 minutes: Introductions. Students will be shown a list of (genuine) passengers and be invited to choose someone to pretend to be during the class. 5 minutes: We will talk a little bit about the building of the Titanic, using photographs and pictures. 5/10 minutes: We will find out what life was like on board the ship. Learners will look at the 'ticket' of the passenger name they chose at the beginning of the lesson and find out if they are lucky enough to be in First Class, or if they will be stuck down in Third Class. We will look at menus available in the different dining rooms, and students will be able to choose their meal! (Gruel in Third Class, Banquet in First Class!) 5/10 minutes: We will read witness statements from people onboard the ship when it started to sink. We will be History Detectives and try to work out what happened. What went wrong? 5 minutes: What happened? We will find out about the rescue mission. We will look at the names of the passengers students chose at the beginning of the lesson, and find out if they survived. 5: Depending on time and student interest, we might also talk about the recovery of the Titanic: We will find out about how the Titanic remained under the ocean for many years, and talk about the various rescue missions. 5: Sequence challenge! Working as a group, learners will be challenged to put six events in the correct order in which they happened. Can they beat the clock and stop the ship from sinking! -- * NOTE - Due to the sensitive nature of the material, this class really is only for students aged 8+. Please do not enrol younger students. (Although I’d be delighted to see them on some of my other ‘History Detectives’ classes!) * I can't wait to meet your learners! This class is one of a series of 'History Detective' classes I run; attend three History Detective classes and gain your certificate! : ) I have a Masters from the University of Oxford, a professional teaching qualification, and many years’ experience teaching English, History and Creative Writing. Classroom Policies: We respect others and have fun learning together. Please feel free to email me any questions you may have. My most important policy: there is no such thing as a bad question! Please come into the class with an open mind and we will all learn from each other. I hope to see you in class!

Parental Guidance
Parents should be aware that a large number of people died onboard the Titanic and this will be discussed in the lesson. Students will be asked to select a 'character' at the beginning of the class. Some of the characters will live and some will die. This will be dealt with sensitively.
