Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will be given intensive (and extensive) tuition about JB Priestley's 'An Inspector Calls' in preparation for their upcoming GCSE (AQA) exams. It is expected that students will be sitting their exams this summer, but younger students who are also familiar with the text are welcome to join us.

I have a Masters and a PGCE from the University of Oxford, and over a decade of teaching experience. I have taught and tutored many students for their GCSEs. I love this play and enjoy seeing students engage with it!

The class structure will be as follows:

Introduction
Starter - brainstorm activity. (Students will be given a simple recall activity for warm-up.)
Activity 1 - Characters. We will revise the main characters, consider their narrative arc, learn key quotes and raise important questions.
Activity 2 - Plot Summary (a brief look at a timeline of events).
Activity 3 - Themes. We will consider the key themes in this play, and consider questions around these topics.
Activity 3 - Exam style questions. We will look at the nature of the questions in the AQA GCSE English Literature exams and discuss what is required. As a group we will plan an answer. Students will then be given the opportunity to plan an answer individually - and then to share their ideas for feedback.
Plenary - Students will be invited to take part in a short quiz to test their knowledge and ideas about the play.
After class - students will be given two sample questions which they can answer in their own time.

I'm looking forward to meeting your students and helping them to fall in love with this brilliant play!
