This group class is for gifted and talented writers who need some guidance in helping to prepare their entry for the John Locke Essay Competition. The schedule will be as follows: Week 1 - week beginning 8th April - What is an essay? (What is a paragraph?) How does it differ from a more basic composition? Week 2 - week beginning 15th April - How do we conduct academic research? Week 3 - week beginning 22nd April - How do we structure and plan a coherent essay? Week 4 - week beginning 29th April - How do we edit and review an essay? Students will write their essay independently, follow guidance from me about planning, researching, structuring and editing their work. --- The John Locke Essay Competition is a fantastic opportunity for gifted young people to stretch their academic muscle and learn how to construct a create a coherent essay. Every year, the John Locke Institute release a series of essay titles on themes relating to each of seven subject categories - Philosophy, Politics, Economics, History, Psychology, Theology and Law - which students can choose from. A winner is chosen from each of the subjects and there is also a grand prize winner. There is also a separate prize awarded for the best essay in the junior category, for under 15s. The John Locke Essay Competition is hugely prestigious and looks brilliant on university applications. I'm thrilled to be able to help students find out more about this great opportunity.
