Students will learn concepts including the following terminology:

Week 1 Human Body
Cell, tissue, organ, organ system,  organism.  Integumentary,  skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, circulatory. Digestive, endocrine, excretory, reproductive.  Hormones and homeostasis.  

Week 2 Integumentary System 
Skin - epidermis, dead keratin cells, dermis, subcutaneous tissues.
Regulate Temperature - blood vessels, sweat glands.
Hair - insulation, dead keratin cells.
Nails - protect tips of fingers and toes.
Sensory receptors- pain, temperature, photoreceptors, chemoreceptors.
 
Week 3 Skeletal System
Skeleton System Lesson Plans
Axial Skeleton - skull, spine, ribs, sternum.
Appendicular Skeleton - arms, feet, hands, legs, pelvis, shoulder.
Bone Structure - bone marrow, periosteum, Haversian canals, osteocytes.
Joints - ligaments, ball-and-socket joints, gliding joint, hinge joint, pivot joint, saddle joint.

Week 4 Muscular System 
Muscle Movement - tendons, flexor, extensor, adductor, abductor, elevator, depressor, hyper extensor, opposition, dorsiflexion, plantar flexor, inversion, aversion. Naming muscles game. 
Muscle Contraction - myofibril, sarcomere, z lines, actin, myosin, binding sites.

Week 5 The Circulatory System
Heart - left atrium, left ventricle, aorta, coronary arteries, vena cava, right atrium, right ventricle, pulmonary arteries, sinoatrial node.
Blood Vessels - arteries, capillaries, veins.
Blood - plasma, hemoglobin, red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets.
Blood Type - A, B, AB, O, Rh factor.
Transport Materials - blood pressure, O2, CO2, hormones, food nutrients, distributes heat.

Week 6 The Respiratory System 
Respiratory System Lesson Plans
Lungs - bronchioles, alveoli, diaphragm.
Air Flow - nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi.
Air Transport - O2, CO2, HCO3 ions, diffusion.

Week 7 The Digestive System 
Mouth - canine teeth, incisor teeth, salivary glands, saliva, amylase enzyme.
Esophagus - peristaltic contractions.
Stomach - sphincter, gastric juices, hydrochloric acids, pepsin enzymes.
Small Intestine - nutrient digestion, nutrient absorption, duodenum, gallbladder, bile, liver, blood sugar, pancreas, lipase enzyme, villi, microvilli.
Large Intestine - colon, absorb water, feces.

Week 8 The Excretory System 
Urinary System Lesson Plans
Kidneys - nephrons, glomerulus, Bowman’s capsule, loop of Henle, kidney dialysis.
Bladder - ureters, urine, urethra.
Liver - nitrogen waste, ammonia, urea.


Week 9 The Nervous System 
Brain - corpus callosum, cerebral cortex, limbic system, brain stem.
Cerebral Cortex - outer cerebrum, processing senses, gray matter.
Limbic System - inner cerebrum, cerebellum, thalamus, hypothalamus, emotions, memory.
Lower Brain Stem - midbrain, pons, medulla oblongata.
Peripheral Nervous System - cranial nerves, spinal nerves, ganglia, somatic nervous system, autonomic nervous system.
Sensory Receptors - chemoreceptors, mechanoreceptors, pain receptors, photoreceptors, thermoreceptors.

I have taught High School Anatomy in traditional schools for 5 years, and the past year I have taught various 3-6 week courses on different Anatomy topics on Outschool.  Lastly,  I have tutored for the curriculum online this past year as well. 

Homework Offered
Homework will be Lab summaries or answering questions evaluating understanding of the lab.  Additionally,  students will be asked to practice labeling or vocabulary as part of the lectures.
