30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
US Grade 1 - 4
In this 30 minute class, students will learn how to make an idea web to keep track of all our our ideas and then compose a short story. Students will suggest ideas as I write them down for everyone to see. I will prompt students to find a beginning, a middle and an end to the story about my guinea pig Maisel and her adventures as a pirate. Every student will have their turn to give an idea and to help create part of the story. Children are not asked to write, everything is done orally. Of course, they are welcome to write if they chose to, but sometimes, this can discourage certain children to compose. My focus is the writing process and creativity versus actually writing it down.
Learning Goals
Students will learn creative writing skills as they help write a simple short story.
