Each week, learners are expected to choose one song or riff to play, record themselves playing it, and post the video to the classroom! There will also be a few worksheets for students to turn in once a week: naming bass guitar anatomy, string names, etc.Assessment
When learners share their video/audio recording of themselves playing the homework I will either comment or film a video response with constructive and positive feedback.Class Experience
🎵Become a Guitar Hero!🎵 In this self-paced class, you'll learn the essentials of guitar playing, from proper finger placement and chord shapes to reading tabs of your favorite songs. You'll master iconic riffs, strumming patterns, and learn to play like a guitar legend! Each week includes pre-recorded short lessons and video demonstrations, modeled by Teacher Mónica. You’ll also receive a selection of songs or riffs to choose from that you can practice, record, and share for feedback. Learners are encouraged to submit videos of their progress, which will be reviewed and critiqued by Teacher Mónica. Please allow 24 hours for a response during weekdays. This course is primarily for beginning musicians. No previous music lessons or guitar experience is needed. I will be teaching students basic music theory, ear training, proper guitar technique, and rhythm playing so that students will be able to effectively learn any song on their own once they finish this course. Learners can expect me to model, use visuals, and audio examples in order for concepts to be fully grasped. I also find that when students feel the rhythm and beats of songs, it is easier for them to internalize it - be prepared to clap or tap your foot!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to play basic guitar chords and apply simple strumming techniques to accompany various beginner-level songs.
Students will enhance their ability to maintain steady rhythm and timing

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from The Master's University
Hi, I'm Teacher Monica (they/them) - a musician and artist. I am passionate about teaching, traveling the world, and creating art.
Currently I'm a middle and high school choir and fine art teacher at a Waldorf school, but I also have experience with teaching early elementary aged learners in private and small group music and art classes.
As an experienced educator, I believe that every child can become a musician and artist. All learners deserve a well-planned, differentiated arts education. I am an energetic and passionate teacher and do my absolute best to model to my students so they have an example of what having a passion for learning and creating art or music looks like.
I have been teaching music for 20 years and received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2014. This helped me achieve a firm grasp on the art of teaching music in both a group or private lesson setting. I also learned so many tools on how to study, read, and analyze music, which helps me guide my students into being confident performers and analyzers of their pieces.
Fun facts:
I have three cats named Atoka, Calcifer, and Bagels.
I have a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
