Class Experience This is part three for those who already did the first two stories, but it is not necessary to have taken the first two class to take this one-- the stories are not all dependent on each other. Week One: we will learn proofreader's marks and discuss why proofreading is essential for final copies of writing. We will read the first segment of the set of stories and proofread them together. We will discuss what the errors are and why they need fixing. Weeks 2-10-- for each successive week, we will review proofreader's marks, read the next segment of the story and continue with the proofreading process. We will also make predictions about what will happen next in the story and answer comprehension questions. Week One through Five-- "Project Principal" Week Six through Ten--"School Cook Off" I will choose one specific skill each week to focus on, depending on what errors are found in the story, and based on student need. Examples of possible topics: Capitalization, punctuation, common spelling errors, subject-verb agreement, misuse of adjectives or adverbs, switching verb tense, etc. Students will take turns reading and looking for the mistakes. Through discussion, they will share what errors they found and possible ways to fix those errors. They will explain how the mistake can lead to less precise and accurate communication. This will help them discover errors in their own writing.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their ability to look for and fix grammatical errors. They will be able to explain what the mistakes are, how the mistakes weaken the writing, and possible strategies to correct the errors.

Words, words, words. Where would we be without them? They can make us laugh, cry, feel, think, reflect and push us to change the world. I have 40 years of experience teaching English Language Arts to adolescents-- and I am still smiling! What can I teach? If it deals with language, I can do it: grammar, literature, essay writing, creative writing, poetry, and word study to name a few. I have also directed plays for over 35 years for kids ranging from 3 to 18, and for adults in community theatre, so I can teach all aspects of Theater Arts. Because I am also an actress, I am energetic, enthusiastic and animated.
I believe, like Nelson Mandela has said, " Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." That is what teaching should be. AND, it should be fun!!
I have a BA in English and a MA in Humanities/Theater Arts, and a lifetime teaching certificate.
I am now retired. BUT, I am not tired of teaching-- it's who I am and what I do. I have 40 years worth of ideas to share with eager learners of all ages. Come learn and play with me.
