Day One: read prose version of A Midsummer Night's Dream and make a flow chart of the characters Day Two: Review the characters and their relationships, discuss the humor and some of Elizabethan people's beliefs that add to the plot and begin reading the modified version using their best acting skills Days three- six: student will continue reading and will discuss the characters, how they change, why it is a comedy. They will then have the opportunity to either write a poem or create a drawing about the play or the characters. We will experiment using different voices for different characters, learn when to pause for dramatic effect, visualize the scenes as they happen.' We will discuss how the royal family is different than the rude mechanicals, and if there are any differences between Hermia and Helena/Lysander and Demetrius. We will discuss if Titania should give the boy to Oberon We will judge if Oberon was justified in putting the potion in Titania's eyes Using summary skills, we will summarize all major scenes
Learning Goals
tudents will gain an understanding of the humor and Elizabethan attitudes through listening to and rewriting A Midsummer Night's Dream. They will also learn how to summarize and chose important parts of the plot. They will be familiar with the characters and the plot.

Note: In the original version, there are sexual scenes and references. There is also some violence. The version we wil be reading is toned down. There will be talk of love and marriage, and a fight scene, but any references to sex will be eliminated. I have directed this pay over 10 times with actors as young as 8 and as old as 17.
