Beginner Level
In this one time class, students will listen to a classic story of The Gingerbread Boy by Paul Caldone. The students will work on reading fluency as they read the chorus of the story with the teacher. During the reading, the students will also work on comprehension by discussing characters, setting, and the problems in the story. The students will talk about the author's purpose for writing this story. The students will discuss the characters and if they made good/ bad choices. The students will be encouraged to retell the events in the story in our discussion. We will have some fun and laughs throughout the reading. We will then draw a step by step Gingerbread Boy together that will look good enough to eat. Run, run run, catch me if you can....

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!
Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop an academic foundation and gain academic confidence with a love of learning. Your child will be a life time reader!
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child and further a passion for learning!
