Pre-Algebra Math Camp for Middle Schoolers | Get Ready for Algebra

Stop the summer slide and help your middle schooler gain math confidence!

In this ongoing summer enrichment class, we will review and practice pre-algebra math concepts that will help your child succeed in middle school math. Ranging from place value to decimal arithmetic, week by week we will take a collaborative, discussion-based approach to learning. This class will help your child make a smooth transition to high school math.

Each week in class we will:
--Warm up with mental arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
--Focus on the topic of the day through discussions, group practice, and individual practice
--Wrap up with problems in context (word problems) that will encourage students to draw on a wide range of math skills

--Week of June 9: Place value of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
--Week of June 16: Factors and multiples
--Week of June 23: Adding and subtracting negative numbers
--Week of June 30: Equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions
--Week of July 7: Perimeter and area
--Week of July 14: Methods of multiplication
--Week of July 21: Interpreting data and graphs
--Week of July 28: Methods of division
--Week of August 4: Adding and subtracting decimals
--Week of August 11: Multiplying and dividing fractions
--Week of August 18: Order of operations

My teaching style is upbeat and conversational. I encourage students to discuss their thinking and work together to find solutions. I also include some open-ended questions in each class to help students deepen their mathematical understanding (and to show that there there isn't always one right answer!). 

Children are welcome to join the club any time. This club is most suitable for children starting or in middle school (in the US) or Key Stage 3 (in the UK). This club supports the National Curriculum in England.
