Class Experience

Students will have multiple opportunities to learn more about the medical field, medical education, career development, service and volunteer opportunities, clinical experiences, and more.
As a U.S. medical student, I am passionate about exposing young learners to the medical field through career education. Having navigated educational and medical topics with students of all ages, I provide a friendly, comfortable environment where learners can ask questions and share experiences.
Students have the option to present on medical topics/specialties of their choice. If interested, students can choose their specialty via a SignUpGenius link sent when they register for the course.

I will also leave a weekly challenge that learners are able to complete on their own, if interested. We will briefly discuss learner's experiences with these challenges in the next class.
 2 files available upon enrollment
Journal (a word processor or notebook will do)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
  • SignUpGenius
Learner progress is assessed by continued participation in discussions and question prompts.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Being a medical field-based course, there will be discussions on medical procedures, such as surgery. This also may include medical photos of surgery and disease at times. There will also be potentially sensitive medical topics covered while discussing medical specialties, such as cancer, reproductive health, mental health, and other life-altering illnesses. These topics will be discussed in a diagnostic, professional, and medical fashion.
Students will be directed to a few websites throughout the course to do self-research on medical specialties and medical diagnostic procedures.
