Class Experience

In this 16-week self-paced course, students will develop essential navigation skills to confidently find their way through any environment—urban, rural, natural, or digital. Designed for beginners with no prior experience, this class teaches practical life skills that can be used for outdoor adventures, travel, emergencies, and everyday confidence in unfamiliar places.

Each week, students will explore a new navigation topic, starting with the basics of map reading and compass use, and moving on to identifying natural and man-made landmarks. They’ll learn how to plan and follow a route, navigate different environments such as cities, forests, deserts, and mountains, and even explore water-based and GPS navigation. The course concludes with navigational problem-solving and a final project that lets learners apply what they’ve learned in a fun, hands-on way.

The course also covers basic outdoor survival principles to support safe navigation in the wild. Whether your student wants to hike confidently, explore safely on family trips, or simply build everyday independence, this course offers a structured, practical path to real-world skills that last a lifetime.

Our instructor, Jonathan Reynolds, brings years of travel, outdoor exploration, and teaching experience to the classroom. His engaging, clear teaching style helps learners stay curious, build independence, and develop trust in their own abilities to make smart decisions when navigating unfamiliar areas.

This class allows your learners to watch the pre-recorded videos and do them at a time that is FUN for them! You can also spend extra time on the topics your child is most interested in. Since this is a Self-Paced class with no live meetings, students can log in at a convenient time to complete the week's lesson.

The videos will contain the information required to give students a good understanding of each topic and each one will include homework for the students to undertake during the week, as part of a project.

After watching each video and completing the homework assignments, students will be provided with feedback and the specific next steps on how to improve or adapt.

Time frame for the Week:
Mondays – The teacher will post the information needed for the week. Students can submit questions.
Tuesdays - Wednesday – The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week. The students will need to complete any homework assignments and answer any questions in the discussion.
Thursday – Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom for teacher feedback and discussion. Students will discuss it among themselves.
Friday – The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students.
Saturday - Sunday – The teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week.

Please note: This course requires no prior experience.
