What will students learn: Students will learn basic figure proportions to understand how to draw the head in proportion, the figure, and how to properly cloth a figure, with folds that look real. What background knowledge: Some basic art skills should be part of the students abilities, but no prior knowledge of the figure is necessary. Week 1: Learn the facial features of the figure and how to adjust, depending on the pose of the head. Demo will be live instructor. Students will follow and work with instructor. Homework will be to practice what they learned from someone live at home. Week 2: Demo will be live instructor. We will work on shading and realism in portraits in more detail here. We will focus on light and shadow and a light source coming from one side. Students will properly light themselves for a self portrait from a photo or draw someone they know for homework. Week 3: Demo will be live instructor.Learn the basic head heights of the figure and how the proportions work for a male figure and female figure- This process may take two weeks for both figures. Homework will be to draw the figure in basic proportions for the male figure (wearing a fitted t-shirt and shorts) by this week, and then to practice with someone you know- clothed. Week 4: Demo will be live instructor. We will work on basic clothing for female figures we will work from demos, and homework will be to work again from the figure with basic fitted clothing. Homework will be to draw a figure in proportion with fitted clothing on their own. Week 5: Demo will be live instructor. We will work on more detailed clothing for figures we will work from demos, and homework will be to work again from the figure but now with better expertise on how to wrap clothing properly around the figure. This week will include creating more interesting clothing- homework create more difficult clothing. Week 6: Hands: Live instructor demos, we will work or breakdown of the hands and how to properly create hands in different positions. Homework is to create several hands from students own choice. Week 7: Feet: Live instructor Demos, students will work on feet, and clothed feet (shoes). Demos on how to work from basic shapes and to create proper proportions. Homework is to create both feet and clothed feet. Week 8: Live instructor Demos, shading in greater detail for the figure. This last week we will focus on how to properly shade the figure and to give off effects of clothing folds with greater advances. Homework will be to work on shading where it creates definition to the form. Homework: will be assigned weekly and it will be drawing free hand. Learner Progress: is monitored through live demos, feedback all throughout class as well as when students share their work the following week.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
We will not make this class about nude figures, but more about basics and the clothed figure. I teach this with sensitivity to the age group knowing that these are still youth students and not young adults so the subject matter will be kept to a youth level.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional artist whose main area of expertise is the portrait and figure. It is my passion, and what I love to do, as well as that I teach it live at an art museum. My personal approach is to stop and evaluate the students all throughout class, as well as when I demo, I check for understanding. I also have the experience in this genre live so it is something that I work on all the time both professionally as an artist and instructor.
