Beginner - Intermediate Level
Looking to improve your people-drawing skills and style of character design? Look no further than this club! We will learn techniques, tips, and tricks to make drawing people easier, and then we will use those skills to draw our own characters. This is a creative club, so artists are welcome and encouraged to design their own diverse characters every day. Each day will happen differently; some days we may begin with some quick warm-up exercises and then move on to the creative portion of the day, or the whole class may involve follow-along instructions that artists can use to make their characters their own. Schedule: 8/27--Elevating the stick figure 9/3--Basic, diverse body proportions 9/10--Portrait Basics 9/17--Posing Artists learn best from experiencing other artists' work and ideas, so questions, collaboration, and sharing is always highly encouraged, though not required. Any incomplete work can be finished up outside of class (if desired). I find that a teacher is only as good as their flexibility. I use structure to guide learners in achieving certain skills, but I leave the experimentation, creativity, and imagination up to them! I actively strive to learn from my students as much as they can learn from me.
Learning Goals
Learn about physical diversity and how to incorporate it into your character designing.
Gain confidence in drawing human figures.

In 2023, I illustrated the graphic novel RIP Corey: my friend died and it SUCKS! by Chris Buchanan. I gained lots of experience and understanding of drawing human characters from this comic. Lately I have been creating my own comic, Anonymous (not published anywhere yet), which has taught me even more. Please feel free to check out some samples at https://www.arttacularstudios.com/illustration-portfolio, or check out RIP Corey itself.
I am a published illustrator who has been teaching art since 2020, when I led a paint tutorial for a sixth grade birthday party that was almost cancelled due to the pandemic. I really enjoyed the experience and became excited about the idea of sharing art and creativity with other artists. I love both the science and subjectiveness of art--I think there's a lot we can learn from it, and I can't wait to share it with you!
