I love to draw, I just don't know what to draw!! Sound familiar? To get better at drawing you just need to draw often, everyday if you can, draw anything you can find, from a crumpled sock on the floor to the tree in your front yard. This class is a weekly motivation to keep a sketchbook and keep drawing. Using graphite pencils, artists will be inspired here and get lots of practice and skill building. We will use graphite pencils to sketch out drawings, lightly with basic shapes and lines and building up to a solid line drawing. Then I will show how to shade to get different values and depth in our drawing. I will not teach basic drawing skills but will demonstrate step by step, from basic shapes to shading and details. Any level art student can follow , but it will be most comfortable for an INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED student that has done some drawing on their own or taken classes. VOTING What we draw each week will be decided by the students. At the end of every class we have an exciting voting experience where students get to vote from lots of different drawing subjects. We vote on the drawing we will do the following week. I take ideas from students and add categories that interest my students, so each of my classes is a little different. WEEKLY CHALLENGES Students are given a challenge every week at the end of class to draw something similar to what we did in class, or using a skill we used. They do the challenge on their own to re enforce what we did together. It is not mandatory. If you do the challenge you are rewarded with an extra vote during the Voting time. Some of the Subjects that will be offered to vote on: ✏ Animals ✏ Marine Life ✏ Birds ✏ Flowers and leaves ✏ Everyday objects ( Vase, Shoes, Camera, potted cactus, stacked books) ✏ Landscapes ✏ Trees ✏ Food ✏ Still Life ✏ Cartoons ✏ And many more 😊 Techniques and skills I aim to cover: ✏ sketching with basic shapes ✏ values in a photo or still life ✏ smooth tonal shading ✏ other shading techniques (hatching, cross hatching, scribbling, stippling, etc.) ✏ Texture (hair, feathers, rough skin of fruit, woodgrain)

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a full time artist completely in love with creating art , I paint daily and sell my paintings locally and online.
I have enjoyed drawing since I was a child and have always had a sketchbook nearby but never took an art class until my late 20's. One oil painting class and I was off, learning everything I could, using as many art materials as I could get my hands on.
A fearless desire to try new art techniques and mediums has driven me to learn art on my own, no formal training , although I have learned a lot from some talented online art teachers.
It is exciting, inspiring, empowering to learn that you can create something beautiful with just your hands, your mind and a few simple tools.
I would become stagnant if I did not have an outflow for this creativity, so I teach!! I love sharing what I have learned with others. I am willing to teach whatever I am learning and creating so expect a variety of classes.
I taught art in a private school to grades K-12 for 2 years. I have also taught art and sewing lessons in my home. I was a homeschool mom for several years and taught art at our homeschool co-op to ages 6-13.
I think that online learning is a huge asset to the the young artist. Being that I have learned a lot online myself I know from a students perspective.
With close up cameras, a smart pen, sharing abilities in Zoom, printables and whatever else it takes , I am able to really focus the student on what they see, learning to see details and put them down on canvas or paper.
I believe every artist is at a different place in his or her learning process and needs to work right there in that place. No comparisons to others or mine. Mistakes are welcomed and hopefully turned into a new and unexpected beauty in the art.
My hope is that my students enjoy the process of learning and creating art as much as I do and that I can help make that happen.
