Class Experience

This course is taught by a veteran Fashion Designer, who worked in the industry for many years in the heart of NYC. I teach from both experience and education (Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC). I'd love to have you come and design with me!

Steampunk inspiration comes from the Victorian Age, from 1837 to 1901. The movement reaches directly into the pocket of Victorian England and predicts what the world would be like today had its inhabitants and inventors prevailed over modern technology.

After discussing the subculture of Steampunk, Students will design and sketch out their creations on either a supplied blank body form or on their own. We will work together to gather ideas, time period details and drawing techniques.

Multiple live camera views will be used to show different sketching techniques and help students draw their vision.

Templates will be posted in the classroom for Male and Female manga style body forms and Male and Female Comic style body forms. There will also be Character Specification Sheets, which the students can create easily on regular paper, to detail all the characteristics of their Costume Designs.

Students may use any type of art materials they wish. I mainly use my iPad to sketch on, which can be screen shared as I'm working. Paper/pencil is perfectly fine!

Class starts on time. We do not have time to go backwards if students are late. I will supply the class recording for verified late students who feel they cannot catch up.
