Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
In this ongoing class, students will be provided with the opportunity to write creatively prompted by a writing prompt about fall and all the fun things that take place during the season.

We will spend the first few moments of class creating a community by getting to know one another, understanding class expectations, and discussing our learning target.

We will then move into planning out the structure of their story as well as talking about the different components of an entertaining story. Students will be provided a few minutes to brainstorm and organize their thoughts regarding the main ideas of their beginning, middle, and end.

The majority of our lesson will be allowing learners the space to write. We will spend about 20 minutes on the independent writing piece where they will put their stories together, following their brainstormed plan.

Time will be provided for learners to share their writing with the group at the end of class if they feel called. This will not be required.

We'll close our lesson out by checking in with our learning target to ensure students have achieved the learning goal for the lesson, and students will also do a self reflection on their effort throughout the lesson!

The class will follow the following schedule:
Week of September 4th: Write a story about a kid superhero's first day back to school.
Week of September 11th: Write a story about a day in the life of a squirrel during fall.
Week of September 18th: Write a story about a scarecrow that comes to life.
Week of September 25th: Write a story about a leaf pile that is actually a secret entryway to an unknown world.
Week of October 2nd: Write a story about getting lost in a corn maze.
Week of October 9th: Write a story about a pumpkin that morphs into something else.
Week of October 16th: Write a story about a vampire that moves into town.
Week of October 23rd: Write a story about the spookiest house on the block.
Week of October 30th: Write a story about a football team that gets lost on the way to their out of state game.
Week of November 6th: Write a story where the leaves on the trees don't change color, they turn into something surprising instead.
