Exploring Insects! One Week, Self-Paced Class

For this one week self-paced class, we will be learning about different types of insects that we know, and maybe some we do not know. We will also learn why some insects are beneficial to us on Earth. We will also be creating fun insect projects each lesson.For interaction during our time together, there will be an insect scavenger hunt to look for some of the insects we will be talking about during the week.

Lesson 1- We will learn about insects in general (qualities of insects) and pollinating insects (bees, ants, wasps, flower beetles, and moths). The project for this week will be to create a bee tube.

Lesson 2- We will learn about insects that are considered garden protectors (lady bugs, praying mantis, dragonflies, and ground beetles). The project for this week will be to create a paper plate lady bug.

Lesson 3- We will learn about insects that help us on Earth along with singer insects (flies, dung beetles, grasshoppers, crickets, and cicadas). We will hear different sounds of insects during this week with video examples. The project will be to create a clothespin grasshopper. 

Lesson 4- The final week of lessons. We will learn about other insects, with some of the annoying insects (mosquitos, termites, cockroaches). We will also talk about stick insects, and the life cycle of a butterfly. The final project will be to create your own butterfly.
