Class Experience

Hi! Welcome to Let's Play: Working Memory Games!
In in this course we'll practice a variety of games that improve working memory skills.

What is working memory, though? Working memory is the ability to hold information in your mind while you complete a task. For example, you need to remember the multiple steps to long division while completing a long division problem. If you can't hold onto the steps, you'll struggle with this task. This applies to real life as well! Being able to hold onto directions or a phone number long enough to complet your task are crucial life skills.

This class is structured as a teacher led interactive session. Students can expect to work as a group to practice skills that improve working memory alongside the teacher. Some games will require students to take turns so that each student can try the game! Other games will be designed for a group to complete all together.

I can't wait to interact with your students through these highly interactive games! We'll use on screen and on camera materials to practice and grow working memory skills together.

Example games:
- List as many animals as you can think of in one minute! Go! (this game develops long term memory)

- I'll draw a pattern on the board, and then erase it. After completing a distraction task such as answering a simple math question, spinning around, or saying their favorite color, students will try to re-create the pattern from memory! This builds visual memory and working memory, which is required to complete tasks despite distractions!!

Required knowledge:
Students should know their letters and numbers up to 100. They should be able to name basic shapes and colors. All abilities welcome!

Increase working memory skills
Assess students' current working memory capabilities and self monitor their working memory skills and improvements

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my classroom! I have a B.A. in history and ancient languages, but my true love is helping students with learning differences thrive! I have been teaching small groups, individuals, and online for the past 15 years! I have extensive experience with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, down syndrome, and more learning differences.

I am also a homeschool mom of four children, who are all neurodivergent in their own ways! We have two dogs, Jackson (a cardigan corgi), and Sookie (a goldendoodle). Many students enjoy saying hi to the pups at the end of our sessions ;)

Did you know, sometimes the best way to improve reading and math skills is actually by taking a step back and building underlying skills first?

Imagine not having the ability to hold things in your working memory. For example, someone gives you directions to find a specific item in the grocery store. Your working memory holds onto that information long enough for you to find the item! In many children with ADHD and dyslexia, this skill is weak, but can be strengthened! Reading and math both require a strong working memory!

Another skill is processing speed. By building how quickly and accurately your brain can process visual and auditory information, you'll increase your student's capacity for learning new concepts!

Don't forget long term memory, attention, logic, and more! All of these skills are what we focus on in my classes! Rather than practicing math and reading, we play games that build these skills. Everyone has so much fun AND they grow in their math and reading skills!

I believe 1-on-1 learning is the way to go for this type of class! Each session is tailored to your unique student, and we build on skills that they need. Every session looks different because I am meeting the needs of each student individually.
