Learn new vocabulary through our awesome creative writing book club. This one of a kind book club offers English as a Second Language learners and English as a Foreign Language learners the opportunity to grow in confidence, conversation skills, vocabulary, and more, all while having a great time making new friends and enjoying reading and writing. In this book club, ESL and EFL learners will develop skills in conversations, speaking, reading, writing and More. This class is for beginners and will focus on skills students personally need to grow. *Learners can join the class at any point. This writing class runs weekly and students may join at any time. New writing skills are introduced in each class. So stay for one class or keep coming back. Students love it!* Readers and begginning writers will develop foundational skills such as drawing dictating composing writing sentences and paragraphs. They will be given opportunities to write opinion pieces, informative/explanatory, and narrative pieces ( when developmentally appropriate) Students will understand questions to ask that will prompt their own speaking, reading comprehension, and writing. Students will gain an greater understanding of parts of a book, conversation vocabulary, and writing. This book/writing club reflects standards for national and statewide objectives as well as TOSEL and TEFL standards. It offers fun and engaging writing assignments with strong and sometimes advanced vocabulary ( depending on individual learners). This foundational workshop will review minilessons in writing such as punctuation, and capitalization. It will also offer opportunities in writing such as modeled writing, group writing, and individual practice. Students will be given the opportunity to keep writing journals. Theme: Informative writing and nonfiction March 24- 28. Theme: spiders Using sentences dressers in story April 1-4. Theme: pets Write a description April 7-12. Theme: vegetables Environmental Print and More April 14- 18. Theme: animals Opinion Writing More.... Writing a narrative piece ( About Me) Writing a letter Story Structure ( begginning, middle, end) Labeling and vocabulary More Classes will be added This class is for students who are starting to write sentences as well as students who are writing paragraphs. Students are certain to grow their skills in this class. This is an interactive class in which students can converse with classmates and share writings. Please do contact us with any questions. Learning Goals
Students will find joy in writing while discovering new K-3 writing skills. Students will develop a larger vocabulary of words while participating in a reading book club.

Students will need writing paper or notebook and pencils ( colored pencils are great for this class)

Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of North Carolina Pembroke
I'm Ms Velvet and I am a highly qualified teacher with multiple Degrees in Education. I have taught ELA and ESL for many years. I am certified to teach TOSEL and TEFL. I am a native English speaker.
I am certified in birth through Kindergarten and early childhood education and passionate about teaching writing. I believe students gain fundamental skills in writing while developing a passion for stories, fairytales, folktale and more. I love teaching writing to beginners and have many many years experience in it. I keep the classroom size small so that each learner gains skills that are crucial for early writers and I ensure classes are interactive and engaging.
I am not only a teacher and parent but also a lover of books and a published author of childrens fiction and nonfiction. I look forward to meeting your child on this reading journey!
