Book Club - Reading Club for Early Readers- 5-9 Year Olds-Prek and Elementary
In this ongoing book club, students will read classic as well as new stories and fairytales. We will then discuss what we read and tackle age appropriate questions for discussion building confidence and critical thinking skills. Summer fun

Perfect for nonreaders, beginning readers, and proficient readers. In this weekly book club, students will read/ hear a new story each week and come to class ready to have a good time. We will discuss reading comprehension questions, learn about the story elements, discuss vocabulary words, learn different genre, literary forms, and play a game or have art projects and/or other activities with each book. Students also review letters, sounds, numbers colors, and much more. If we have any additional time after our discussion and activity we will be drawing pictures of our favorite parts of the story and/ or using reading maps to focus on story elements. Be sure your learner has access to paper, or a notebook, and pencil (colored pencils are fun) or other writing instruments for our class. Students learn through active engagement, video presentations, printable story maps, hands-on activities and more. Students review different genre and stories each week. This is a weekly bookclub and Students may join anytime. This course is developed for a small group of learners in order to give more individualized attention. 1-3 learners may register. This is an ongoing course so each class stands alone. We focus on a different theme from the books each week. I believe Learning should be fun and engaging. Parental Guidance
Occasionally we will read books with everyday problems such as bullying, fighting, ect. At other times the problems in childrens books might take a fanticiful or unrealistic (fiction) approach. Please dicuss these topics as well as others with your child.
Pre-Requisites
Students can join this club whether they are beginning to learn letters and sounds or can read at a proficient level. All students are welcome whether they are native English speakers, can speak English clearly, or are new to the language.

Students will need a notebook and pencils ( colored pencils if they would like)

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am passionate about teaching bookclubs. I believe students gain fundamental skills in reading while developing a passion for stories, fairytales, folktale and more. I keep the classroom size small so that each learner gains skills that are crucial for early readers and I ensure classes are interactive and engaging.
