Journey with us through our 2nd grade reading class where we will cover topics such as reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary building, identifying story elements (characters, setting, plot), and understanding main ideas and details. We will also work on different types of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. The class is structured with a mix of direct instruction, guided reading sessions, independent practice, and interactive activities. We begin with short lessons, followed by reading assignments, group discussions, and hands-on exercises like word games and vocabulary challenges. I will teach by using a variety of strategies, such as interactive read-alouds, group reading activities, and multimedia resources like slides and short video clips. Students will actively participate by answering questions, discussing key ideas, and sharing their thoughts on the texts. There will be plenty of opportunities for students to interact with me, both during whole-class

Hello! I'm Ms. Velvet, a dedicated and experienced educator with a passion for helping students learn and grow. I hold degrees in Birth through Kindergarten Education and Early Childhood Education, and have spent several years teaching in elementary schools. Most recently, I’ve had the pleasure of working as a Reading Coach, where I support students in developing strong literacy skills.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to design and implement curriculum for second and third grade students, which I occasionally use in my own classrooms to enhance learning experiences. I take pride in incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) into my lessons wherever possible, ensuring students not only grasp key reading skills but also engage with a well-rounded, interdisciplinary approach to learning.
I deeply value the relationships I build with my students, and once they’ve been in my class, they will always be "my kids."
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending quality time with my family on our small farmschool ( homeschool), where we cherish the balance between work, lessons, nature, and play. I have 2 kids, 2 dog, 2 fish, and a special needs kitten.
I look forward to getting to know you and grow with you as we navigate this learning course together.
