Class Experience

In this problem-based design thinking challenge, learners will create an invention specifically for the purpose of helping squirrels collect and transport acorns from all around the forest floor to high up in their tree home. As a group, we'll discuss different modes of collecting, such as vacuums, tunnels, and rakes, along with modes for transporting, like pulleys, escalators, and wheels. Learners in this class will then be challenged to combine their understanding of these things to make an...

Students will learn about and engage in the engineering design process. They will also learn some background on how to collect and move objects.

No homework, though, the goal is that learners leave the class so excited about their invention that they actually go and make it! Recycled materials work great for this type of project, so start collecting today!

  1 file available upon enrollment
An Acorn Invention Planning Organizer is provided and recommended to have, though not required. If printing is not available, a writing tool and paper will suffice.

25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
