In this class students will complete an engineering activity as they build a propeller car and learn about simple circuits.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Beginner Level
This class is taught in English.
  • 1. How a simple DC circuit works 2. How to build a simple DC circuit. We will do this in a simple, easy to use online designer and then translate that design to an actual circuit 3. The engineering process (Design, build, test & measure, improve)
I am an electronic design engineer with 18 years experience as a STEM professional. I really enjoy teaching STEM and passing on the passion of STEM to the next generation.
Assessment
Frequency: included
Details: Learners progress will be assessed by their general understanding and grasping of the class exercise and by their completion of the total engineering project.
 1 file available upon enrollment
- 2 AA batteries - 2 pieces of cardboard - 2 plastic straws - glue (Elmer's glue, super glue, or hot glue gun) The remaining materials needed for this project are in the detailed "Propeller Car List of Materials" file attached below
Parents should be prepared to help their student build their propeller car. Some students will choose to use a hot glue gun, super glue, or Elmer's glue to assemble their car. All gluing and assembly of the basic car structure (not including the wheels or the circuit) should be completed before the start of class. This way we can spend more time learning about circuits, designing our circuit, and the engineering process.
