In this 5-week course, students will draw portraits of their own anime characters. Students will learn how to draw the face in three views, gender bend, and get helpful tips and tricks for traditional and digital artists. (Part 1 of 2)

Class Experience

At the end of this course students will be able to draw anime portraits and facial features in 3 views using…
• Basic steps and shapes
• Basic gender bending techniques
• References 
SKETCHBOOK PROJECTS: Students will complete 4 sketchbook projects. These are practice exercises students will complete independently during class. Students will submit practice projects weekly to the classroom page, or privately to the instructor via messages. Feedback from the instructor will be given the following week.

SHOWCASE PROJECTS: Students will complete 4 showcase projects. These are unit projects students will complete independently. Students will start these projects in class and complete it outside of class as needed. Students will submit unit projects weekly to the classroom page, or privately to the instructor via messages. Feedback from the instructor will be given to each student during the following week.

GALLERY PROJECT: Students will complete 1 gallery project. This final project culminates everything discussed and practiced throughout the course, and includes a drawing and presentation component. Students will complete this project independently during the final week of class and present on the last day class. Students will submit final projects to the classroom page or privately to the instructor via messages. Feedback from the instructor will be given to each student during the following week.

However, students are not required to use this app and may use any other app they prefer in class. The desktop version of the app must be purchased to use. The mobile version of the app requires no purchase to use. No account, login, or sign in is necessary to use the app. This app does connect to SketchBook's web services as needed or requested. During such times data including personal identifying information, device information, and more may be collected to provide certain services (e.g. contacting support via the contact form, downloading brushes, saving app preferences, saving in-progress artwork, and more). Parents with children under the age of 16 are asked to review the app's privacy policy and consent to the management and use of their and their child's data as pertains to the services provided. Parents with children under the age of 13 are asked to review the app's privacy policy and consent to the management and use of their and their child's data as pertains to the services provided. GOOGLE FORMS. Students are asked to use Google Forms at the end of the course to submit course evaluations. The responses given are seen only by the instructor and reviewed to improve this and/or future courses. Course evaluations do not collect personal identifying information from or about students, parents, and families. 

REFERENCES. As needed, students are encouraged to use PG-13 appropriate images from external sites like Pinterest and Google Images as reference for character features (e.g. eyes, noses, mouths, hairstyles, ears, etc.).
