Have you ever wondered "Do chickens get chicken pox?" If you said yes, this class is for you! Each week we will explore questions about scientific phenomena presented by the students in the class. Topics will vary based on student participation, and will be focused on observable facts from a scientific perspective. Basic skills in scientific research and study will be emphasized throughout each session. The class structure will follow an interactive discussion format including small group...
Students will be able to investigate questions about scientific phenomena independently.
I am a fully certified biology teacher with formal training in and years of experience teaching biology courses at all levels from middle school through high school.
Prior to class, students will need to submit questions (the weirder and wackier the better) regarding scientific phenomena they have observed or experienced.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Ongoing, informal assessments will be conducted to check for understanding and content knowledge. No formal assessments or grades will be given.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Questions regarding observed or experienced phenomena will be generated by students. If the teacher determines the questions are inappropriate or too mature for the designated age group, parent will be contacted and question will not be shared with the entire class.
